Dr. Rupnar Dutta is an Indian Singer. Rupnar was born in a well-educated and cultured Bengali family. He is the son of Sri Tarun Kumar Dutta and Smt. Jhumur Dutta. He is the grandson of Late Justice Sri Ramlal Dutta.
He started his musical life under the supervision of Guru Sri Amal Mukhapadhyay with Rabindra Sangeet. Then he took talim of Najrul Geeti from Guru Srimati Mira Saha. From Guru Sri Rabin Nandi he took talim of Najrul Geeti and Atulprasadi Songs. Rupnar took talim of Classical Music (Vocal) from Guru Sri Ramakrishna Basu, one of the most successful students of Ustad Amir Khan. From Guru Sri Biman Mukhopadhyay he took talim of Old Bengali Songs (Puratani). Rupnar also took talim of Thumri from Bidushi Srimati Purnima Chowdhuri.
Rupnar began his career as a playback singer by singing ad jingles and became known to the Bengali song listeners after releasing the video of his most popular song 'Swapna Kancher Ayna' (The Mirror of Dream) in 2008. As a Music Director he proved himself by his sensational music in the Drama - 'Ora Panch Jan' (They are Five), directed by Natyakar Sri Bimal Roy. He is the composer of several ad jingles and Bengali songs. From Raga Music Rupnar released his debut Music Album - 'Swapna Niye' (The Dream Colour of Music) on 27th August, 2014. In this Album famous actor Sri Saumitra Chatterjee has recited the Poetry of Sri Sunil Gangopadhyay with Rupnar's songs.
Rupnar is a regular performer in different programmes organized by Department of Information and Culture, Government of West Bengal like Bangasanskriti Utsav, Charukala Utsav, Hastasilpa Mela, Bangla Sangeet Mela etc. He also satisfied the Audience outside the West Bengal by presenting Bengali and Hindi songs of different shades. Beside this musical career, he completed Graduation with Economics (H), M.A. in Economics and B.Ed. He stood first in M.Ed. in University of Kalyani. Rupnar completed his Ph.D. from Calcutta University. Now Rupnar is teaching in a renowned University of West Bengal.
